LANDFILL EXPANSION // safeBERM®

Reclaim airspace without a traditional berm rebuild

safeBERM® is an engineered perimeter system that lets landfill operators expand capacity along the berm — a liner, encapsulated fill, and cover working together in place of a conventional soil berm rebuild.

An Engineered Alternative to Rebuilding the Perimeter Berm

safeBERM® (built on EnCAP-IT® encapsulated fill technology) lets landfill operators reclaim airspace along the perimeter without excavating and rebuilding a traditional soil berm. A liner system, encapsulated structural fill, and protective cover work together to create a stable, engineered slope in far less time than conventional construction. At current filling rates, many landfills have disposal capacity through a defined date — safeBERM® lets operators leverage their existing permit to add capacity at a cost below traditional MSE berm methods.

99.7%
of safeBERM® systems are recycled fill — CCRs, contaminated soil, crushed concrete & glass
0
acres of new footprint — built within the existing permitted boundary
100+
years of stable, environmentally sound performance by design

The flexibility of design allows safeBERM® to be applied at many landfills despite their current restrictions. This innovative expansion method prevents landfill creep, does not impact surrounding land owners, and can make mitigating existing wetlands unnecessary.

Why safeBERM

Reclaimed airspace without a traditional berm rebuild.

Reclaimed Airspace, Without the Rebuild

Faster Than a Rebuild

Engineered in far less time than excavating and reconstructing a conventional soil berm.

Reclaims Airspace

Recovers valuable capacity along the perimeter without expanding the landfill’s footprint.
